Its hard to say goodbye
but it has to be said
because a goodbye
opens doors
doors to new adventures
new friends
new memories
So embrace the fact
that we must say
GOODBYE
And i will hope for
a hello
Yet for now,
I will remember the
goodbye
looking forward to the
hello,
to remember the hello
but live with the goodbye

so i had a chance to chat with a friend of mine, about how to say goodbye, and it got me thinking. Goodbye is such an unfriendly word. I HATE GOODBYES. i have had to say goodbye so many times. but i have never given a formal goodbye before, because i always look at it like i will just see them again in a few days, months, or years. Never do i think i wont ever see them again. Because if i have that mind set, i would cry at every goodbye, and i would try to avoid the goodbye, and maybe even stop meeting new people so i would never have to say goodbye.
Im one that cries during goodbyes esp with my close friends that have been there for me through so much in my life. every time i leave for a new semester, i have to say goodbye to my family, my best friend, and my friends.
Its hard to say goodbye to family. I have a hard time going to school so far away from my family, and knowing all the fun activities im missing out on, but i know i will be done soon enough, and be back to get all the details i have missed while i was away. i have gotten better at saying goodbye to family, and just saying goodbye in general, so i dont get that emotional anymore, but i when i drive back or away from home, i am always reflecting upon all those times i had, and that i will MISS everything, and i always wish no goodbyes had to be said. but that hasnt come true yet.
anyways, during this chat, we figured that we could come up with some steps on how to say goodbye. if you would like to know... well you will found out even if you dont want too.
step 1: state their name
step 2: reflect on something that connects you and the other person on a deeper level
step 3: tell them that you value your friendship.
step 4: say that you will keep in touch as much as possible.
i also told him that saying goodbye doesn't always have to be a formal event it could just be “so, im leaving, but we will see each other again. sooooo i hope you have a great summer. and when i get back i want to hear all about it.” Because both people involve understand that you are leaving for a little bit and life goes on and you may not be able to keep in touch but if you are good enough friends it shouldn’t matter if you talk everyday or not, because “true friendship isn’t being inseparable it’s being separated & nothing changes.”
so recap. i hate goodbyes, but they happen anyways. i get homesick, but i live through it. steps to a formal goodbye. goodbyes dont always have to be a big production. because you know that when your friendship survives the distance, then you know goodbyes are never for good.
so goodbye for now. i wont ever miss having to say goodbye. thats forsure.
